A Mix of Colombian Food & Party - Andrés Carne de Res

To taste a wide variety of Colombian meals all in one place, Andrés Carne de Res is the most popular restaurant in Bogota. Not only is it a  tourist destination, but whenever a local celebrates a birthday or has out of town guest, it is the first choice. Its popularity comes from the fact that the excellent food is enhanced by its dramatic ambience.

As soon as you walk in the door, the restaurant is decorated by vintage items, hearts, christmas lights, and Colombian culture think the Colombian version of T.G.I. Friday´s! The location also is eccentric because of the way that it is built. The original location outside of Bogota is an old finca (farmhouse) that was renovated by the addition of extra dining rooms and dance floors. As a result, the restaurant is a labyrinth of hidden places to discover, while the Andres D.C. location has 4 floors of the same concept in the city.Throughout lunch and dinner, they even have performers dressed in traditional Colombian clothes that will interact with guests.

The best time to go is for dinner so that you can also enjoy the party at night. Dinner starts with some Colombian appetizers such as a patacon (fried plantain) and morcilla (blood sausage). If you still have room, fill up on a bandeja paisa a dish made of rice, beans, ground beef, egg, avocado, pork rind, and plantain. After dinner, the aguardiente (liquor made of anise) starts to flow as the party start and people move to the
dance floor.

BONUS: It has a retail store where you can buy great gifts!

Little Indian Superstar - Trendy Indian Food and Gin Club in Bogota

There are now well-known restaurants for Indian food, but Little Indian Superstar is definately the most trendy. This is because the crowd is different (think hipsters) and the Gin bar is more of a focus than the food. Though the food is good too, it may not be as traditional as the other restaurants.

The main attractions are the cocktails and a specialty of unique Gin cocktails in huge cups! Here you will find common Indian food like Chickin Tikka Masala, samosas, and some vegitarian options. Since it also is a cocktail bar, it gets crowded fast, so I recommend makeing reservations to book a dinner table during the weekend. Most people at the bar may be standing around while you eat dinner, so do not expect a quiet and chill dining experience. Also, the DJ and music at a clubbish atmosphere.

In sum, people go there for the atmosphere and it is a great spot to hit up before going out because it is in the Zona T and near other bars. You will quickly notice it form the outside for it's interior design and decoration as it has Christmas lights and holographic wallpaper year round mised in with traditional Indian decor.

BONUS: They have a rooftop terrace with a fire pit!

La Monferrina Restaurant: Best Steak Tartar!

I have been looking for a freat steak tartar since I arrived to Bogota 4 years ago. I tried once at Andres Carne de Res D.C., but it was a make-it-yourself type of dish. I do not know how to make steak tartar so it did not turn out so great and I really did not understand the poitn of that concept. If I wanted to make steak tartar myself I would just make it at home - not pay $35 mil pesos COP (expensive)! Anyways, the one at La Monferrina is very good and presented well!

La Monferrina is a Italian restaurant with homemade pasta - also known as a pasta factory. However, I would not call it traditional Italian food because it is better than traditional Italian food! It is better to me because it is lighter and more modern. For example, even though they have some traditional dishes, they come with a elegant souce instead of the heavy creams and over-cheesed pasta. The salads are even big, filling, yet light and healthy. For example, you could order a salad, appatizer, and wine for a complete and healthy meal.

Besides the great food, the atmosphere is also modern and non-traditional. You will not see the typical, cheesy Italian decorations like grapes and fake sculptures. Instead, it is a cozy yet urban with young people (hipsters) instead of old Italian women and large families. The reason for this is because the owner is a young urban professional who invites his friends, musicians, and artist to eat at the restaurant and socialize. In addition to special events every once in a while, the restaurant has a new location in Parque 93 that is a great space for entertaining and hosting events. For example, you can see the people and events on their Facebook page.

Beirut Restaurant - Lebanese Food

Located in Usaquen, Beirut is a classy restaurant with great service, comfy sofas, and a relaxed ambiance. The fire pit makes it a great date spot! The food is also amazing by the way.

Beirut is a Lebanese restaurant that has a variety of great traditional and non-traditional options. For example, they fast-food type dishes like Shawarmas and also full entres like cow tounge with sides of couscous and humus. The variety of the menu lends itself to selecting several plates and sharing them in a tapas style. The appatizers are small, but there also is an option of combination plates for 1 person.

When I went, I ordered the cow tounge with other appatizers. My friends ordered combinatino plates with humus, couscous, and kebab. The only bad part about having to order so many plates is that it comes out to be expensive, but it is worth it.

Not only is a a great place to take a date or catch up with freinds over a quiet meal, it is also good as a meeting point for cocktails. You can easily go to a bar nearby or walk around the romantic parks or side streets after the perfect dinner date. This restaurant is easily one of the best restaurante in Usaquen.

The free bread and dipping sauce is amazing!

Review of Korean Restaurants in Bogota

Korean resturants are perfect settings for having a meal with a large group of people or for special occasions. This is due to the large tables, family style meals, and provate rooms. The most famous type of Korean food is propably Bulgogi - Korean BBQ! It usually comes as a choice of beef or pork with side dishes and appatizers. You cook the meat by yourself on the table to build lettuce wraps out of the ingredients provided. This makes eating Korean food a unique experience and now it is available in Bogota!

Best Korean Restaurant in Bogota
There are two Korean restaurants in Bogota, but the best Korean restuarant is Biwon Korean Restaurant (Cra 16 #93a-21). It is a large house that has been converted into a restaurant, so it is great for having dinner in a provate room. A lot of expats and Koreans go there, so you know it´s good food!

Here is an image of my last meal. If you can´t make down near Parque 93, below is another option calles Casa de Corea (Calle 104A#11B - 61).
